In Round 6 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, Vidarbha’s Karun Nair delivered a masterclass performance against Uttar Pradesh, scoring an unbeaten century that guided his team to a significant victory. The Group D clash witnessed Nair setting a unique milestone in List A cricket, etching his name in the record books with an exceptional batting display.
Surpassing a 13-year-old record
Nair played a captain’s knock, scoring 112 runs versus Uttar Pradesh, guiding Vidarbha to yet another commanding win in the tournament. His knock, marked by elegant stroke play and tactical acumen, was pivotal in the team’s success.
Nair’s innings brought him to an impressive tally of 542 runs in just six matches, with a personal best of 163 not out against Chandigarh. The Vidarbha skipper has scored four centuries in the tournament so far, making him the second-highest run-scorer of the season so far after Mayank Agarwal. During his knock against Uttar Pradesh, when he was in the 80s, Nair achieved a remarkable feat, he became the player with the most runs in List A cricket without being dismissed, surpassing New Zealand’s James Franklin, who held the record with 512 runs since 2010.

Vidarbha: Group D leaders with unbeaten streak
Under Nair’s leadership, Vidarbha has been a dominant force in Group D, sitting comfortably at the top of the table without a single loss. Out of 38 teams competing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Vidarbha is one of only two unbeaten sides, alongside Group A leaders Gujarat. Vidarbha’s consistent performances, including a commanding 10-wicket victory over Mizoram in their previous match, have made them strong contenders for the title.
Nair’s incredible run in the tournament has not only propelled Vidarbha to the top but has also established him as one of the standout players of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25.
