The ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has witnessed 28 matches so far as ten teams are giving their all to have their hands on the coveted trophy. However, apart from the elusive World Cup trophy, there’s something more at stake in the ongoing cricketing extravaganza as the participants of the Champions Trophy 2025 will also be determined in the ongoing tournament.

Notably, teams finishing in the top seven spots in the league stage of the ongoing World Cup will get direct qualification for the Champions Trophy along with the hosts Pakistan. According to reports, the qualification scenario for the event was finalized by the ICC Board in 2021.

However, according to ESPNCricinfo, the development has come as a surprise to numerous cricket boards who stated that they’re unaware of the qualification scenario for the next ICC ODI event. One of the major teams that is at a risk of missing out on the qualification for the event is the World Champions England who find themselves on the last spot on the points table with just one win from five matches.

Hence, the Jos Buttler-led side has a lot to play for in the remaining fixtures of the World Cup as they look to save their pride and also earn a spot in the Champions Trophy 2025.
