In a critical day of the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the spotlight was once again on the clash between Babar Azam and Nahid Rana. As the game entered its fourth day, Rana’s relentless pressure exposed Azam’s persistent technical issues, leading to a significant setback for Pakistan.
Babar Azam’s poor shot selection
In the 19th over of the day, Rana delivered a crucial blow to Pakistan’s hopes of a comeback. With a ball that was fractionally short of a length and positioned outside off-stump, Rana drew Babar into an ill-advised shot. Babar, attempting a push away from his body, edged the ball straight to Shadman Islam at first slip. The wicket fell for just 11 runs off 18 balls, with Babar’s departure leaving Pakistan in a precarious position.

The dismissal was a stark reminder of Babar’s ongoing struggle against Rana’s bowling. Despite his renowned skills, Babar’s decision to play a loose shot rather than letting the delivery pass demonstrated a lapse in judgment at a crucial moment. His failure to capitalize on the opportunity added to the mounting pressure on Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Pakistan in a challenging position
As the lunch break approached, Pakistan’s situation was far from ideal. The team managed to score 117 runs but at the cost of six wickets. Mohammad Rizwan provided a glimmer of hope with his unbeaten 38 off 53 balls, including five boundaries. His resilience was a key factor in maintaining a slender lead.
Rana has been in superb form throughout the match, having already claimed three wickets, including that of Pakistan’s current captain, Shan Masood. Rana’s performance has been instrumental in putting Bangladesh in a strong position, with his relentless pace and accuracy proving challenging for the Pakistani batters.
With the series beyond their grasp, Pakistan’s focus now shifts to salvaging a draw to restore some pride. A victory in the ongoing Test could balance the series and provide a much-needed boost to the team’s morale.
