In a thrilling climax to the first Test of the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024, Bangladesh pulled off a remarkable victory by chasing down a modest target of 30 runs, winning by 10 wickets. The match, held at Rawalpindi cricket stadium, saw Bangladesh achieve a historic win over Pakistan, marking their first Test victory against the hosts.

Nahid Rana’s superb delivery

One of the pivotal moments of the match took place in the 26th over of Pakistan’s second innings. With Pakistan’s top-order batter, Babar Azam, at the crease, young Bangladeshi pacer Nahid Rana delivered a crucial blow. Rana’s full delivery, clocking 146.4 km/h and angling just outside off-stump, drew Babar into an ill-fated drive. Unaware of the subtle inward nip, Babar edged the ball, which then crashed into the stumps, ending his innings at 22 runs off 50 balls with three boundaries.

The dismissal was a significant turning point, exacerbated by a missed catch by Litton Das earlier in the over that had cost Bangladesh 22 crucial runs.

Bangladesh’s historic Test win over Pakistan

Despite a valiant effort from Mohammad Rizwan, who top-scored with 51 runs off 80 balls and previously accumulated 171 runs in the first innings of the match, Pakistan’s batting line-up failed to contribute significantly in the second innings.

Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by a standout performance from, who took four wickets at an exceptional economy rate of 1.80, played a crucial role in dismantling Pakistan’s batting. Their disciplined and effective bowling ensured Pakistan could not set a more challenging target.

In a display of clinical batting, Bangladesh chased down the 30-run target without losing a wicket.
