Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has proposed a unique plan for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which Pakistan is set to host. While three venues – Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi – have been shortlisted for the tournament, the PCB has reportedly requested the International Cricket Council (ICC) to schedule all of India’s matches at just one venue, i.e. Lahore.
Why Pakistan is trying to host all of India’s matches at one venue?
This decision, reported by ESPNcricinfo, aims to streamline logistics and security concerns surrounding the Indian team’s travel within Pakistan. Lahore, with its proximity to the Wagah border crossing, could also offer easier access for Indian fans who wish to travel to the matches.
The final decision on the schedule ultimately rests with the ICC, and discussions with participating nations, including India, are expected. India’s participation itself hinges on approval from their government, considering the current political climate between the two nations.

The PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, confirmed sending the draft schedule to the ICC. He emphasized their commitment to hosting a successful tournament, stating, “We are continuously in touch with the ICC… We’re trying to ensure we host a very good tournament in Pakistan.”
While the PCB’s proposal offers logistical advantages, it remains to be seen if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian government will agree to having all their matches played in one location. The unique situation adds another layer of intrigue to the forthcoming Champions Trophy.
Indian team last toured Pakistan in 2008
The Indian team has avoided traveling to Pakistan since their last visit for the Asia Cup in 2008, primarily due to security concerns and subsequent diplomatic tensions between the two nations. This pattern continued into the 2023 Asia Cup, which was modified into a hybrid format with two venues. Consequently, the Indian team played their matches in Sri Lanka.
