In an exciting encounter in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 Challenger match, Perth Scorchers edged out Sydney Sixers to secure their place in the WBBL 2025 final. After posting a competitive total of 183/8, the Scorchers restricted the Sixers to 172/6 in their chase, with Beth Mooney’s outstanding knock of 76 leading the charge. The Scorchers’ disciplined bowling attack, spearheaded by Alana King and Lilly Mills, contained the Sixers’ chase and ensured that the two-time champions fell short by 11 runs. The Scorchers will now face Hobart Hurricanes in the final, looking to clinch the title in a high-stakes clash.

WBBL|11: Perth Scorchers post strong total despite middle-order woes with help of Beth Mooney

The Scorchers began their innings solidly in the WBBL Challenger match, with Mooney leading from the front with an explosive 76 runs off 44 balls. Along with Katie Mack (40), the Scorchers looked set to post a challenging total, reaching 119/2 in the 13th over. However, a collapse followed as the middle order fell apart in the final overs. Sophie Devine, Paige Scholfield and Maddy Darke all perished cheaply, but the lower order fought back to push the score to 183/8. Despite the late wickets, Mooney’s quick-fire half-century and early partnerships provided the foundation for a competitive total. The Scorchers’ bowlers would now need to bowl tight lines to defend the target successfully.

WBBL|11: Sydney Sixers’ chase falters under pressure against Alana King

Chasing 184 for victory, the Sixers struggled to find momentum, despite a solid opening stand between Ellyse Perry (29) and Sophia Dunkley (41). The middle order fell to the pressure, with Ashleigh Gardner (26) and Amelia Kerr (42) showing some resistance, but the chase never gathered real pace. With wickets falling regularly, the Sixers were left needing too many runs in too few overs. The Scorchers’ bowlers, particularly King, who took 3 wickets for 17 runs, and Mills, who also picked up a key scalp, maintained a tight grip on the game. In the end, the Sixers finished their innings at 172/6, 11 runs short of the target, handing the Scorchers a vital win to advance to the final.
