Manoj Tiwary on Gautam Gambhir

In a candid and revealing statement that has stirred the cricketing world, former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has openly criticized current India head coach Gautam Gambhir, attributing his success and leadership style to strategic public relations and questioning the fairness of credit distribution in team achievements.

Manoj Tiwary terms Gautam Gambhir as a hypocrite

Tiwary accused Gambhir of hypocrisy, claiming that the current India coach doesn’t practice what he preaches. Tiwary pointed out the disparity in how players are treated based on their affiliations, specifically mentioning that Rohit Sharma, who is from Mumbai, has been given more prominence. Tiwary contrasted this with Jalaj Saxena, a player who performs well but doesn’t receive the same level of recognition or support, as he remains quiet rather than speaking up for himself. Through this, Tiwary was highlighting perceived favoritism and lack of fairness in team selection or representation.

“Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn’t do what he says. The captain (Rohit) is from Mumbai, and Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He performs well but keeps quiet,” said Tiwary as quoted by News18.

Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly: Tiwary

Tiwary reckoned that Gambhir should not be credited solely for leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their IPL title victory, as the success was a collective effort. Tiwary emphasizes that players like Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and himself also made significant contributions to the team’s success. However, he felt that Gambhir has been given undue credit due to the surrounding environment and PR efforts that portray him as the sole hero, overshadowing the collective team effort that led to the championship win.

“Gautam Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit. Kallis, Narine, and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit? There is an environment and PR that allows Gambhir to take all the credit,” added Tiwary.
