Ricky Ponting, the legendary former Australian captain, is reportedly on the verge of signing a deal with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Though there has been no official confirmation from either party, but according to Cricbuzz Ponting is in advanced discussions with the franchise and is expected to finalize the agreement soon.
Ricky Ponting’s previous IPL experience
Ponting, who was the head coach of Delhi Capitals (DC) for seven seasons, parted ways with the team earlier this year. He had taken over the coaching reins of the franchise in 2018 and led the team to a series of impressive performances. During his tenure, Delhi Capitals qualified for the Playoffs in 2019, 2020, and 2021. Notably, under Ponting’s guidance, Delhi reached their maiden IPL final in 2020.
Despite the initial success, the last couple of seasons saw Delhi Capitals struggle to perform consistently, which ultimately led to Ponting’s exit earlier this year.
