Tilak Varma credits a player for his ton

India‘s rising star, Tilak Varma, delivered a sensational performance in the third T20I against South Africa, leading his team to an 11-run victory. The young left-handed batter showcased his skills, scoring a stunning maiden century in the shortest format. His unbeaten 107 off 56 balls helped India post an imposing total of 219/6. South Africa fought valiantly but fell short, ending at 208/7 in their 20 overs.

Tilak’s century, filled with eight boundaries and seven sixes, earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award. His explosive innings came at an impressive strike rate of 191.07, demonstrating his ability to anchor the innings while maintaining a high run rate.

Tilak Varma reflects on a dream-come-true moment

Tilak reflected on a dream-come-true moment and expressed his immense joy and gratitude after his match-winning century, acknowledging that while the opportunity was challenging, he was thrilled to have contributed to India’s victory. He described the moment as a dream come true, as playing for the country had always been his aspiration. The century, he felt, came at a crucial time when the team needed it most, making it even more special.

“I am okay. It was a difficult chance, but I am happy we won the game. I cannot put it in words. It was my dream to play for the country, and the hundred came at the right time when the team needed it,” said Tilak at the post-match presentation.

Tilak also attributed his success to the support of captain Suryakumar Yadav, who played a significant role in his achievement. Suryakumar, a seasoned T20I player, made the bold decision to promote Tilak to bat at number three, a strategic move that allowed the young batter ample time to build his innings and reach the coveted three-figure mark.

He thanked Suryakumar for the trust, acknowledging that the pitch was tricky, with uneven bounce making it tough for new batters. Tilak focused on sticking to his basics, being prepared to bat long, and capitalizing on the right moments when the opportunity arose, especially after Abhishek’s dismissal.

“All credit to Mr. Suryakumar Yadav, our captain. He gave me the opportunity to bat at 3 and told me to express myself. Thanks to him again (turns back at SKY and smiles). I just backed my basics. The pitch was two-paced to start with and it wasn’t easy for the new batters coming in when Abhishek got out. I was ready to bat long and was waiting for one,” added Tilak.
