ICC provisionally suspends USA batter Aaron Jones. Here's the reason

USA international batter Aaron Jones has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket after being charged with multiple breaches of anti-corruption regulations by both International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI). The governing bodies confirmed the development in a joint media release issued on Wednesday, January 28.

The charges relate to alleged corrupt activities during the 2023-24 season and form part of a broader investigation that could potentially involve other individuals.

Allegations against Aaron Jones linked to Barbados’ Bim10 Tournament

A significant portion of the case against Jones stems from alleged incidents during the Barbados Bim10 tournament, which falls under the jurisdiction of the CWI Anti-Corruption Code. Under this code, Jones has been charged with fixing or attempting to fix aspects of matches, as well as failing to disclose approaches made to him to engage in corrupt conduct.

He has also been accused of failing to cooperate fully with a reasonable investigation conducted by a designated anti-corruption official, a charge considered serious under the CWI framework.

In addition to the CWI charges, the ICC has brought two separate allegations against Jones under its Anti-Corruption Code. These charges relate to international fixtures and accuse the batter of failing to report full details of approaches or invitations to engage in corrupt activity to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU).

Jones has also been charged with obstructing an ACU investigation by allegedly concealing or tampering with information relevant to the inquiry. The ICC emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of the sport and are treated with zero tolerance.

Jones’ provisional suspension and response timeline

As a result of the charges, Jones has been provisionally suspended from all forms of cricket with immediate effect. The ICC confirmed that the suspension will remain in place while disciplinary proceedings are ongoing.

Jones has been given 14 days from January 28 to formally respond to the charges. Both governing bodies have stated that no further public comment will be made until the process is complete.

The ICC also noted that the investigation is ongoing and that further charges against other individuals could follow in due course, depending on the findings.

Jones’ strong presence in international and franchise cricket

The development represents a significant setback for USA cricket, with Jones being one of the most experienced players in the national setup. The 31-year-old has represented the United States in 100 international matches, including 52 ODIs and 48 T20Is. He played a match-winning knock for his national team against Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2024.

Beyond international cricket, Jones has been an active presence on the global T20 circuit. He has featured for the Seattle Orcas in USA’s Major League Cricket and for the St Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). His most recent appearance came at the Abu Dhabi T10 League in November 2025.
