The tournament will feature a dynamic blend of competitive action and regional pride, with eight teams vying for supremacy. The UPL 2024 will include five teams in the men’s competition and three in the women’s division, promising an exciting array of matches.
Uttarakhand Women’s Premier League: A new frontier in Indian Cricket
The women’s segment of the UPL is set to run from September 18 to September 21. This edition of the women’s league will showcase a total of three teams: Nanital SG Pipers, Pithoragarh Hurricanes and Mussoorie Thunders. The format includes three league games followed by a final, adding a structured yet thrilling dimension to the competition. Uttarakhand joins Bengal, Delhi and Jharkhand as the fourth state to launch a franchise league for women, underscoring the growing emphasis on women’s cricket in India.
Icon players announced for inaugural UPL Women’s edition
In preparation for the league, each team has selected its icon player through a draft process held on September 1, 2024, in Dehradun. The Nanital SG Pipers have chosen Ekta Bisht, a renowned figure in Indian women’s cricket. Pithoragarh Hurricanes have picked Neelam Bisht, and Mussoorie Thunders have appointed Mansi Joshi as their respective icon players. These selections highlight the commitment to bringing notable talent to the UPL and enhancing the league’s appeal.
Organizational excellence: SSPARK Sports and CAU Partnership
The League is organized by SSPARK Sports and Entertainment, a leading entity in sports event management. The company has collaborated with the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU) to ensure the league’s seamless execution. This partnership is set to leverage SSPARK Sports’ expertise and CAU’s local knowledge, promising a well-managed and successful tournament. All matches for the inaugural UPL will be held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun.
