India tightened their grip on the second day of the Chennai Test against Bangladesh, with substitute fielder Dhruv Jurel pulling off a spectacular catch to dismiss Litton Das. Bangladesh struggled in their second session, reaching 112/8 at Tea, still trailing by 264 runs.
Dhruv Jurel’s stunning catch changes the momentum
In what was a dominant session for India, Jurel made a crucial impact as a substitute fielder. On the 28.2 over of Bangladesh’s innings, Litton Das, looking to shift gears, attempted an aggressive sweep off Ravindra Jadeja‘s delivery. Jadeja, bowling a tossed-up ball outside off, tempted Litton to go for the big shot, only for him to top-edge it. Jurel, stationed at square leg, sprinted forward to cover significant ground and pulled off a sensational low catch.

It was a moment of brilliance that turned the tide in India’s favor, ending the dangerous partnership between Litton and former Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan, who had added 50 runs and were beginning to stabilize the innings.
India dominates post-lunch session
India dominated the second session, picking up five wickets after Lunch. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were quick to remove two key Bangladesh batsmen early in the session. Litton and Shakib, however, fought back briefly, adding 50 valuable runs and showing some resistance on a pitch that was starting to flatten out.
However, clever field placements by Rohit Sharma forced both Litton and Shakib into making rash decisions. Litton lost his wicket attempting a risky sweep, while Shakib soon followed suit, perishing while trying to reverse sweep onto the stumps. Both these dismissals derailed Bangladesh’s innings and put India in the driver’s seat.

Bangladesh struggling as India eyes victory
At Tea, Bangladesh found themselves reeling at 112/8, trailing India by 264 runs. With five wickets falling in the session, it seems a foregone conclusion that India are on the verge of securing a significant lead. Even though enforcing the follow-on might not be necessary, India holds a commanding position in this Test match. Bangladesh will need a near miracle to claw their way back into this contest.
Indian camp in high spirits
The Indian team, led by stand-in captain Rohit Sharma, was in a buoyant mood. Moments of laughter and camaraderie were visible between key players like Jadeja, Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant during the session. The aggressive bowling, backed by sharp fielding, has placed India in a prime position to seal the match within the next day or two.
