Kuldeep Yadav made a pivotal impact in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 by dismissing Musheer Khan, who had been batting resolutely. Musheer, who scored a brilliant 181 off 373 deliveries with 16 fours and 5 sixes, was finally dismissed when he was caught by Riyan Parag off Kuldeep’s bowling. This dismissal was crucial as India B, for whom Musheer had been a mainstay, was positioned at 299/8 at that point.

A rollercoaster over from Kuldeep Yadav and fall of Musheer Khan

After ending Day 1 unbeaten on 105, Musheer extended his innings to 181 runs, including five sixes and 15 boundaries.  He cruised to 150 and smashed the opposition bowlers all around the park. In the over leading up to Musheer’s departure, Kuldeep experienced a dramatic turn of events. Musheer lofted a delivery over long-off for a massive six over deep mid wicket that hit the roof top of M.Chinnaswamy, displaying his aggressive approach. However, Kuldeep responded with precision, dismissing Musheer on the very next ball and got him out at leg side. This swift rebound underscored Kuldeep’s resilience and his knack for striking at critical moments.

Crucial partnerships and resilience

Musheer’s innings was instrumental in reviving India B’s innings from a precarious 94/7. His 205-run partnership with Navdeep Saini was vital in propelling the team to a competitive total. Musheer’s performance came amidst a disappointing display from his teammates, including Yashasvi Jaiswal (30 off 59), Sarfaraz Khan (9 off 35), and Rishabh Pant (7 off 10).

Earlier this year, Musheer had scored a double century against Baroda in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinals. With 710 runs in just 11 first-class innings, including three centuries, he has already made a significant mark. His impressive performance in the U19 World Cup 2024, where he was the second-highest run-scorer with 360 runs, further highlights his burgeoning talent.

DRS drama and bowling struggles

Despite India A bowlers’ persistent efforts, they struggled to break the partnership between Musheer and Navdeep Saini. Musheer’s innings was marked by several DRS interventions, which overturned two caught decisions against him. The bowlers, including Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep and Shivam Dube, labored hard but found little success during the morning session.

Musheer’s attacking strokes, including a powerful pull shot for six off a delivery from spinner Parag, added to his impressive display. In the end, India B was bowled out for 321, with Saini contributing a solid 56. Despite the hard-fought resistance from Musheer and Saini, the match saw a compelling blend of individual brilliance and team resilience.
