West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran delivered one of the most memorable moments of The Hundred Men’s 2024 on Sunday, August 10, by smashing a colossal 113-meter six. The match, held at Old Trafford, saw the Northern Superchargers take on the Manchester Originals in an intense encounter.

Nicholas Pooran’s mammoth 113-meter six

Pooran’s remarkable shot took place on the 74th ball of the Superchargers’ intense run chase. As Scott Currie delivered a full-length ball aimed at the leg stump, Pooran executed a masterful flick with perfect timing and extraordinary power. The ball rocketed off his bat, arching high into the night sky, and sailed well beyond the deep mid-wicket boundary. The sheer force of the hit sent the ball out of the stadium, clearing the railings effortlessly. This monumental six left the crowd in raptures and had the commentators marveling at Pooran’s incredible display of batting prowess.

Pooran leads Northern Superchargers to victory

Pooran’s spectacular performance didn’t stop at that one shot. He played a vital role in guiding the Superchargers to a seven-wicket victory over the Originals, remaining unbeaten on 66 off just 33 balls. His knock, which featured eight towering sixes and two boundaries, came at a blistering strike rate of 200. Pooran was well-supported by captain Harry Brook, who scored 43 runs off 26 deliveries, including two sixes and four boundaries, and Adam Hose, who contributed an unbeaten 27 off 14 balls, with two sixes and one boundary. The trio’s clinical batting display saw them chase down the target with ease, as they shared crucial fifty partnerships.

Manchester Originals struggle despite Phil Salt’s efforts

Earlier in the match, the Originals batted first and posted a total of 152/7 in their allotted 100 balls. Captain Phil Salt was the standout performer for the Originals, scoring a quickfire 61 off 28 balls, which included four sixes and five boundaries. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to build on Salt’s solid start. Jamie Overton, Thomas Aspinwall and Matthew Hurst provided some resistance with scores of 21*, 18* (12), and 17 (8) respectively, while Max Holden managed 13 off 11 balls. Despite their efforts, the Originals’ total proved insufficient against the Superchargers’ power-packed lineup.

Superchargers climb the points table

Mitchell Santner was the pick of the bowlers for the Superchargers, finishing with figures of 3/24, while Patrick Brown, Adil Rashid and Matthew Potts each took one wicket. With this victory, the Superchargers climbed to third place in the points table, securing four wins in seven matches. On the other hand, the Originals, with only one win in seven games, were eliminated from the race to the playoffs, marking a disappointing end to their campaign.
