In an unexpected display of aggression, left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh lashed out at Riyan Parag after dismissing him during the second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 in Anantapur.

Arshdeep Singh’s fierce send-off to Riyan Parag

The incident occurred on Thursday, September 12, when Arshdeep, bowling from over the wicket, delivered a full-length ball that moved away from the right-hander after pitching just outside the off-stump. Parag, who had been batting well, made the mistake of chasing the wide delivery and edged it to the slips, where Devdutt Padikkal took an easy catch. Arshdeep, usually known for his calm demeanor, surprised everyone with a fiery send-off directed at Parag, venting his frustration after a challenging start to the game.

Riyan Parag’s brilliant start for India A

Before that, Parag had been in fine form and scored 37 runs in 29 balls, playing with confidence and taking advantage of Arshdeep’s early struggles. Arshdeep, who was introduced as the first bowling change, initially found it difficult to settle into his rhythm. Parag took full advantage of the pacer’s inconsistency, smashing three boundaries in four balls during one over. This continued pressure forced Arshdeep to work harder for his breakthrough. Although he managed to dismiss Parag with a well-executed delivery, the buildup of frustration was evident in his aggressive reaction post-wicket.

The key moment in the match

Arshdeep’s dismissal of Parag turned out to be a crucial moment in the match. India A had already lost two early wickets, and Parag was working with Tilak Verma to steady the ship. Arshdeep’s breakthrough opened the floodgates for India A’s batting collapse, as they quickly lost two more wickets in succession. Tilak fell to Saransh Jain, while Shashwat Rawat was caught brilliantly by Shreyas Iyer off Harshit Rana’s bowling. The dismissals left India A reeling at 109/5, with their middle order struggling to hold the innings together.
