In a quarter-final showdown of the T20 Blast 2024, Surrey triumphed over Durham in a thrilling contest at the iconic Kia Oval, securing their place in the semi-finals with a five-wicket victory.

The match was a gripping encounter from start to finish, with both teams battling fiercely for dominance. Durham, after setting a challenging target of 163, applied pressure on Surrey throughout the chase. However, Surrey’s calmness under pressure and standout performances, ensured they crossed the finish line in style, finishing the match with two overs to spare and leaving the crowd at the Oval on their feet. The win not only showcased Surrey’s class but also reinforced their status as strong contenders for the T20 Blast title.

Rory Burns’ poor wicketkeeping

The game, which was a high-stakes affair, saw a notable incident involving Surrey’s wicket-keeper, Rory Burns. During the 15th over of Durham’s innings, Burns had a crucial chance to effect a run-out but fumbled the opportunity. The incident unfolded when Bas de Leede struck the ball into the cover region. An impressive piece of fielding by Will Jacks, who dived to stop the ball, resulted in a throw being sent towards Burns. However, Burns was unable to secure the ball cleanly and missed the chance to run out Michael Jones, who had been involved in a minor mix-up while running between the wickets.
