Tilak Varma takes a brilliant catch in 2nd T20I

The second T20I between Australia and India at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) had everything fans could ask for — fiery bowling spells, sharp fielding efforts, and moments of breathtaking athleticism. While India’s batters struggled against Australia’s disciplined attack earlier in the evening, one of the defining highlights of the match came during Australia’s chase when young Tilak Varma produced a moment of magic in the outfield to dismiss Travis Head.

On the third ball of the fifth over, Varun Chakaravarthy tossed up a length delivery outside off, tempting Head to go big. The left-hander made room and launched it high towards long-off, confident of clearing the ropes. However, Tilak had other ideas.

The young Indian fielder sprinted to his left, timed his jump to perfection, and grabbed the ball over his head. Realising he was close to the boundary cushions, Tilak showed excellent awareness — lobbing the ball back inside the field before stepping out and returning to complete the catch cleanly. The crowd erupted as replays confirmed a legal take. It was a moment that reminded fans of Suryakumar Yadav’s iconic boundary catch in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa.

Josh Hazlewood’s heroics derail India’s innings

Earlier in the evening, India’s batting lineup struggled to cope with the relentless Australian bowling attack after being asked to bat first. Josh Hazlewood once again led the charge, wreaking havoc with his immaculate line and length. The right-arm pacer delivered a masterclass in seam bowling, returning with superb figures of 3 wickets for just 13 runs in 4 overs.

India were bundled out for 125 in 18.4 overs, with Hazlewood dismantling the top order and denying the visitors any chance to build momentum. His accuracy forced several false strokes, and the constant pressure from the other end ensured that India couldn’t recover.

Among the chaos, Abhishek Sharma stood tall with a scintillating knock of 68 runs off 37 balls, decorated with 8 fours and 2 sixes. The young opener played with positive intent, punishing anything loose and showing composure while others struggled. His innings was the only silver lining for India, helping them reach a somewhat respectable total despite the collapse around him.
