Amid ongoing political unrest and violence in Bangladesh, veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has found himself embroiled in a legal controversy. While playing for Surrey in the County Championship in England, Shakib was named among 146 accused in an alleged murder case involving a garment worker.

Shakib Al Hasan to return home after the two-match Test series against India

Despite the charges, Shakib continued with his cricketing commitments and traveled directly to India for Bangladesh’s two-match Test series after his stint in England. He is set to return home following the second Test against Rohit Sharma & Co. in Kanpur.

As Bangladesh will fly back home after the India tour, there are speculations about Shakib’s future in the national team. Rumours circulated that the star cricketer might be dropped from the squad if he is summoned by the Dhaka court in connection with the murder case. This uncertainty has sparked widespread concern among fans and the cricketing community, who are closely watching the situation.

BCB official clears the air regarding Shakib’s participation in South Africa Tests

However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stepped in to clarify the situation and quash the media reports. A senior BCB official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated that Shakib will not be dropped from the national team unless there is an injury concern or a selection-related issue. This announcement has brought some relief to those who feared Shakib’s exclusion from the team ahead of the crucial South Africa Test series.

As per the Daily Star Bangladesh, BCB’s cricket operations in-charge, Shahriar Nafees, addressed the media in Mirpur, offering further clarification. He stated that key advisors to the interim government, including those from the law and sports departments, had confirmed that no individuals would face harassment over the cases filed against them. This includes Shakib Al Hasan, who remains a central figure in Bangladesh cricket.

Nafees also reiterated the government’s stance on the issue, stating, “We believe the interim government has made its position very clear. Unless there is an injury problem or a selection-related issue, I personally don’t see any reason as of now why Shakib Al Hasan should not play in Bangladesh in the home series.”

With the South Africa Tests approaching, Shakib’s legal issues remain a sensitive topic. Despite the controversy, the BCB’s assurance offers hope that the celebrated all-rounder will continue to represent Bangladesh, unless an injury or selection concern arises. Fans now await further developments in both the legal and cricketing spheres as Shakib’s future with the national team hangs in the balance.
