Netherlands batter Vikramjit Singh explained the reason behind taking the number seven jersey. Notably, the 20-year-old mentioned that he prefers the number 10, however since his national teammate Timm van der Gugten has that, Vikramjit settled for number seven, which is his second favourite number.
The cricketer also added saying that he often gets asked if the number is inspired by legendary cricketer MS Dhoni. He mentioned that the former India skipper enjoys a lot of support on social media and eventually narrated the story of having number seven behind his back.
“I used to get a lot of comments on that, that I have got Dhoni’s number. A lot of people on social media, they love the number 7 on the back obviously a lot of MS Dhoni fans around there. 10 was my favourite number, and unfortunately, Timm van der Gugten, who also plays for the Netherlands, has got the number. So my next favourite number was 7, so that’s the story behind it,” Vikramjit said while talking to ICC.
Scotland and Netherlands to lock horns for important place
Either Scotland or Netherlands are set to travel to India for the upcoming ODI World Cup as the winner of the final Super Six match will determine the fate of the teams. Notably, the hosts Zimbabwe are already out of the competition along with West Indies and Oman. On the other hand, Sri Lanka have played some brilliant cricket throughout the course of the tournament as the Lankan Lions have earned their ticket to India.
Meanwhile, for the Netherlands to get the job done, players like Scott Edwards and Vikramjit will have to step up like they have done so far in the tournament. With the ball, Van Beek and Bas de Leede have done a terrific job so far but Scotland will come hard at them as well. The Richie Berrington-led side stunned the cricketing fraternity by defeating Zimbabwe in the last match and they will aim to pull off something similar on July 6.
