In a dramatic conclusion to the fifth and final T20I between Zimbabwe and India at the Harare Sports Club, all-rounder Shivam Dube showcased his fielding prowess to secure a crucial run-out, dismissing the in-form Zimbabwean batter Sikandar Raza.

Shivam Dube’s match-winning run-out of Sikandar Raza

India, having set a target of 168, had Zimbabwe under pressure from the outset. Despite intermittent resistance, the Zimbabwean batting lineup faltered, with Raza standing as their last hope. However, during the 14th over bowled by Ravi Bishnoi, Raza’s innings came to a swift end. At 87-5, the pressure mounted on Zimbabwe, with Raza trying to anchor their innings.

On the fourth delivery of Bishnoi’s over, Raza played a shot down the leg side, attempting a quick single with partner Jon Campbell. Miscommunication between the two batsmen saw Raza hesitate, and Dube, stationed at fine leg, seized the opportunity. He collected the ball cleanly and swiftly threw down the stumps at the bowler’s end, catching Raza short of his crease.

The run-out proved to be the turning point of the match, as Zimbabwe struggled to recover from the loss of their key batsman. Despite moments of brilliance in the field from both teams throughout the series, Dube’s exceptional fielding effort in this crucial juncture highlighted India’s determination to finish strong.

With this victory, India sealed the T20I series against Zimbabwe, underlining their dominance in the format and setting sights on future challenges with renewed confidence.

Captain’s reaction

Shubman Gill, reflecting on India’s impressive series win against Zimbabwe, praised the team’s resilience and adaptability in the post-match press conference at Harare Sports Club.

Excellent series. The hunger that we showed after the first loss was phenomenal to watch. Lot of the players had long flights, they weren’t used to the conditions. The way they adapted was remarkable. I have been there (Sri Lanka) once for Asia Cup, looking forward to go there and performing,” said Gill.
