Zimbabwe legend Andy Flower shares his thoughts on India’s head coach role

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opened applications for the position of Head Coach for Team India, with the deadline set for May 27. Rahul Dravid‘s tenure will conclude after the T20 World Cup 2024, leaving several candidates vying for the role.

Among them is Andy Flower, the current head coach of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who has recently expressed his views on the position.

Andy Flower expresses his view

Flower stated that he has not pursued the position of head coach for Team India and has no plans to do so, citing contentment with his current role in franchise coaching.

“I haven’t applied. I won’t be applying. I am happy with my involvement in the franchise game at the moment,” Flower said in the press conference after RCB’s defeat in the Eliminator of IPL 2024.

The left-handed batter represented his nation in 266 international matches, accumulating a total of 11,580 runs, including 16 centuries and 82 half-centuries.

Other contenders for Team India’s head coach role

Ricky Ponting, though highly qualified for the position, has declined the offer from BCCI. He expressed his interest in serving as a national team head coach but stated that the current timing is not conducive for his involvement.

Justin Langer remains a potential candidate for the position. Having previously led Australia‘s national team and currently serving as head coach for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), his status regarding this role is pending further updates.

Stephen Fleming, the present head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is also among the contenders for the role. However, there has been no update from him regarding this matter.

According to reports the BCCI has reached out to Gautam Gambhir for the head coach position. Gambhir, who is presently mentoring the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has not provided any updates on this matter yet.
