Seattle Orcas and MI New York will square off in the final of the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket (MLC). The summit clash will be contested at the Grand Prairie Stadium on Monday, July 31.
Seattle Orcas finished the league stage on the top of the MLC points table with eight points, having won four of the five games. Seattle faced off Texas Super Kings in Qualifier 1 and outplayed the Faf du Plessis-led side by nine wickets to become the first team to reach the final of the first-ever MLC.
Speaking of the game, TSK won the toss and opted to bat first. Seattle’s Andrew Tye claimed a three-wicket haul as TSK were bundled out for a paltry score of 126. Apart from Tye, Imad Wasim grabbed two while Cameron Gannon and Harmeet Singh picked one each for Seattle.
In reply, opener Quinton de Kock scored an unbeaten 88 of 50 deliveries as Seattle chased down the target in the 16th over.
MI New York, on the other hand, finished fourth in the points table with four points. Notably, the Nicholas Pooran-led side also faced TSK in the Qualifier 2. In terms of the game, MI won the toss and invited TSK to bat first. Trent Boult claimed a four-wicket haul as MI restricted TSK by 158 in the first innings. Opener Devon Conway and milind Kumar top-scored for TSK, scoring 38 and 37 runs, respectively. Apart from Boult, Tim David picked up two while Ehsan Adil and Rashid Khan grabbed one wicket each for MI.
During the chase, MI’s batting order also collapsed initially. However, Dewald Brewis anchored MI for a six wicket win. He scored an unbeaten 41 off 33 deliveries, including a four and two sixes. Meanwhile, for Texas Super Kings Daniel Sams, Rusty Theron, Calvin savage, and Mohammad Mohsin picked up one wicket each.
