Legendary Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Moin Khan was born on this day (September 23) in 1971. He made his international debut in an ODI series against West Indies in Multan in November 1990. He played for the national side till 2004.
Moin was the captain of the Pakistan team that won the 2000 Asia Cup.
He was the wicketkeeper in the 1992 Cricket World Cup which Pakistan won and the 1999 edition where they finished as runners-up.
Moin has played 219 ODIs and scored 3266 runs, including 12 half-centuries at an average of 23.00 and a strike rate of 81.30. Meanwhile, in Test cricket, he amassed 741 runs in 69 games at an average rate of 28.55. He has scored four hundreds and 15 half-centuries in the longest format of the game. In addition, he has taken over 100 and 200 catches in Test cricket and ODI cricket, respectively.
During the Semi-final against New Zealand in the 1992 ODI World Cup, Pakistan needed 9 runs off 8 balls before Khan hit a six to make it 3 off 7 balls. He then hit a boundary to help Pakistan advance to the final against England. With Moin not getting a chance to bat, Pakistan scored 249 runs in the summit clash. Nevertheless, the keeper-batter made three catches during the game, including one of Ian Botham, who was out for a duck after being hit by an inswinger by Wasim Akram.
