The match 11 of the Pakistan Super League turned out to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller as both Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings gave their all on the field to win the game. However, it was Multan Sultans who came out on top on Wednesday, February 22, at the Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan.

After being put in to bat first, Sultans got off to a blazing start by their openers Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood who were involved in an opening stand of 85 from 62 balls. Masood was the first man to be dismissed from Sultans who fell prey to Shoaib Malik as he departed after scoring 51 off 33 balls.

However, Rizwan continued his innings at the other end and was involved in another huge partnership with Rilee Rossouw. The duo together added 109 runs for the second wicket off 56 balls.

Rizwan went on to score a breathtaking hundred and remained unbeaten on 110 off 64 balls smashing ten fours and four sixes in his innings. Courtesy of the marvellous hundred by their captain, Sultans finished their innings on 196/2 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Kings got off to a dream start as openers James Vince and Matthew Wade added 72 runs for the first wicket in 37 balls. While Wade got dismissed for 20, Vince continued to attack Sultans and scored a magnificent 75 off 34 balls. However, he couldn’t continue his innings ahead as a miscommunication with Haider Ali resulted in his run out.

With other batters falling around him, captain Imad Wasim took the onus upon himself to take his team closer to victory. With 22 needed from the last over, it seemed as if the game was gone from Kings’ grasp, however, Wasim and Cutting kept their hopes alive. The equation came down to five needed off the last ball but the Kings captain couldn’t find a boundary which resulted in his team’s loss by three runs.

What’s next for both the teams?

The two teams will face off once again on Sunday, February 26 at the National Bank Cricket Arena, Karachi. After losing their first game against Lahore Qalandars, Sultans continued their winning run as they’ve now won their last four matches. They find themselves on the top of the points table with eight points from five matches.

On the other hand, Kings are on the fourth position having won just one match out of five.
