The first ODI between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe was called off due to rain. The Lankans batted in the first innings and posted 273 runs while the visiting team were 12/2 when the rain spoiled the party. The hosts looked to be in good touch, and that’s a positive sign as a lot of senior cricketers in the form of Kusal Perera, Wanindu Hasaranga and Matheesa Pathirana are currently out of the squad.
They would aim to do well in the second match as well to take the lead in the series. For which, the batting and bowling unit will once again have to step up – something that they did in the first match. Meanwhile, who are the players who can make a difference in the second ODI? Let’s dissect:
3. Dilshan Madushanka
Ace pacer Dilshan Madushanka is in remarkable form at the moment. The 23-year-old was magnificent in the recently concluded ODI World Cup and continued to be a threat in the opening ODI of the series against Zimbabwe. He bowled just two overs, picking up two wickets and that shows the kind of damage he can do.
2. Kusal Mendis
Skipper Kusal Mendis gave the perfect start to the team. He made 46 runs off 48 deliveries before getting run out. He is well-accustomed to the conditions and is expected to score runs once again.
1. Charith Asalanka
Charith Asalanka scored a terrific century in the last match. The lower middle order barely supported him but the 26-year-old kept going and hit 101 runs off 96 deliveries before getting run out. He has been very consistent in the ODI format and will be key for Sri Lanka in the second ODI.
