In a Super Smash 2023-2024 encounter between the Northern Knights and Wellington Firebirds at Basin Reserve on Monday (January 15), Nathan Smith showcased exceptional fielding skills with a stunning backward-running diving catch.
Despite the Firebirds suffering a seven-wicket defeat against the Knights, Smith’s outstanding catch provided a standout moment for the Wellington side.
Nathan Smith’s spectacular catch: A fielding marvel
The remarkable incident occurred in the fifth ball of the fourth over during the Knights’ run chase. Bowler Logan van Beek delivered a short-length ball outside off, enticing batter Katene Clarke to attempt a scoop shot over mid-wicket. Unfazed, Smith covered a significant distance from mid-on to deep mid-wicket, executing a spectacular catch that left everyone in awe. This extraordinary fielding effort resulted in Clarke departing after scoring 13 runs off 12 balls.
