Ben Stokes-led England are all set to host Australia in a five-match Test series which accounts for the Ashes, scheduled to begin on Friday, June 16. Notably, the upcoming edition marks the 73rd season of the Ashes. Going by the stats, Stuart Broad is the only English bowler with the most wickets in the Ashes history by an active player. The tall, seasoned pacer has claimed 131 scalps and is on course to making his place in an elite list. On that note, we take a look at the top three bowlers with the most wickets taken in the history of the Ashes-
3. Hugh Trumble | AUS | 141
Hugh Trumble takes the third spot in this elite list as he has 141 wickets in 31 appearances, lacing it with three 10-fors, nine five-fors and eight four-wicket hauls against the English side in the historic series. However, the record held by the former Aussie spinner could potentially be surpassed by Broad in the upcoming series as the latter requires just 11 scalps to clinch the third spot. With five Tests to be played, it remains to be seen if Broad breaches the record and cements his spot.
2. Glenn McGrath | AUS | 157
McGrath was regarded as lethal pacer with the ball and on numerous occasions got the breakthroughs during his stint with Australia. In 30 appearances in the Ashes, the former ace pacer racked 157 scalps which includes 10 five-wicket hauls and seven four-fors. With this, McGrath takes the second place in this list of highest wicket-takers in the history of the Ashes.
1. Shane Warne | AUS | 195
Arguably the greatest spinner of all-time, Australia’s Shane Warne often troubled rival batting teams with his impressive turn that he got with the ball. Likewise, he has the most wickets taken in the history of the series as he has 195 wickets, featuring four 10-fors, 11 five-wicket hauls and 15 four-fors at a stunning average economy of 2.52.
