After grinding hard in the domestic arena and in the Indian Premier League, Yashasvi Jaiswal earned his maiden national call-up in the World Test Championship final against Australia. However, the team management couldn’t find a spot for him in the playing XI and thus, the youngster was warming the bench.
However, things quickly changed for the UP-born cricketer. In the absence of Cheteshwar Pujara, Jaiswal was asked to open with skipper Rohit Sharma and in his very first outing in national colours, the cricketer proved that he is here to stay and dominate international cricket.
Notably, on Day 2 of the first Test against the West Indies, the Indian batters were all over the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side. Rohit and Jaiswal looked phenomenal, to say the least as their 229-run partnership put India in the driver’s seat. The skipper meanwhile hit his 10th century in the longest format of the game while Jaiswal was batting on 143* runs at the end of the day’s play.
The Windies bowlers meanwhile looked clueless in the middle as none of their tactics really worked in the middle. They got the better of Jaiswal towards the fag end of the day but the umpire gave not-out and the team had no reviews left. Thus, nothing really went in their favour as the home team is currently trailing by 162 runs.
Meanwhile, after Rohit’s dismissal, Shubman Gill took centre stage but the youngster couldn’t make the most of the opportunity. He managed to score only six runs as Jomel Warrican dismissed him in the 79th over of the innings. After his dismissal, Virat Kohli joined Jaiswal in the middle and the duo added another 72 runs. Kohli looked rock solid in the middle as he was timing the ball well and that’s a huge positive sign for the tourists. Meanwhile, on Day 3, the team would be looking to extend its lead and take the West Indies out of the game.
