With the historic first-ever five-day Ashes Test done and dusted, the two fierce rivals will reignite their rivalry in the shortest format of the game. England will host Australia for a three-match T20I series, commencing on July 1, at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The home sidem, who succumbed to a hearbreaking loss in the one-off Test will be hoping to bounce back in style in the frist T20I. They will be relying heavly on their bowlers against a star-studded Australian batting line-up. On that note, we list the three bowlers to watch out from England in T20I sereis opener.
Issy Wong
The 21-year-old pacer from London made her way back into the white-ball setup after an impressive stint with WPL franchise Mumbai Indians in the inaugural edition of the tournament earlier this year. Wong went into the history books after becoming the first player in WPL history to bag a hat-trick in the competition. Her ability to move the new ball will be a great asset to her side in English conditions. Although she made her international debut just last year, her unprecedented rise in the shorter format of the game bodes well for the national team.
Sophie Ecclestone
Although England ended up on the losing side in their historic one-off Ashes Test last week, Sophie Ecclestone will be beaming with confidence after a magnificent ten-wicket haul in the Ashes opener. The left-arm spinner was a thorn in the sights of the Aussie batters as she returned with five-fors in both innings of the match. Despite her best efforts, Australia drew first blood in the iconic series after Ash Gardner eclipsed Ecclestone’s heroics with the ball. The 24-year-old is the no. 1 ranked bowler in white-ball cricket, and England will be in with a shout if Ecclestone lives up to her billing.
Lauren Bell
The tall pacer from Wiltshire might not have had the best time in red-ball cricket in the one-off encounter against Australia, but she can be a handful with her express pace in the shortest format of the game. Bell, who made her international debut last year, is expected to usher the English team into the new era, given her impressive stint in the domestic franchise leagues. The towering pacer will be raring to take the field after getting a taste of the action in her first-ever Ashes appearance in Nottingham.
