ROURKELA, India – In just 10 days, hockey fans from all over the world will be enthralled by the 15th edition of the world’s most prestigious FIH men’s championship at the brand new Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela. Another site will be the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, both being great venues for the tournament.
The 16 top men’s hockey teams in the world have carefully planned for the competition and developed game plans for the rivals that stand in their way of winning the championship. To provide the players and fans with the finest experience possible, the organizing team in India has gone above and beyond. The authorities are prepared and ready to guarantee a fair competition and a tournament that runs smoothly. The best hockey stars will have their fans cheering for them as they take part in the most exciting hockey action ever.
The FIH Men’s World Cup will be hosted by the same country for the first time ever since the 2018 edition was also held in the Indian state of Odisha. FIH Hockey Men’s Junior World Cup in 2021 and the FIH Hockey Pro League during the previous 4 years, following the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup in 2018, are two recent examples of important hockey tournaments that the state of Odisha has hosted.
On the first day of the FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup 2023 Bhubaneswar-Rourkela, games will be played in both Bhubaneswar and Rourkela. At the Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar, the reigning African champions and recent winners of the first FIH Hockey Men’s Nations Cup, South Africa, will square off against 2016 Olympic gold medalists Argentina.
Following that, further Pool A action between France and the World No. 1 Australia squad will take place. The action will next go to the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, where teams in Pool D will begin their campaigns. In the first game to be held at the brand-new stadium, England will play Wales. Two sides that are familiar with one another from the FIH Hockey Pro League, where they have produced very entertaining games with tons of goals, will face off in the opening day’s final matchup between hosts India and Spain.
