Visvanth V, a kabaddi hero who hails from the sleepy village of Thoothukudi in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, has made a name for himself on the mat, thanks to his explosive all-around abilities. He was quickly accepted into U Mumba’s ranks once they saw his undeveloped skill, which launched a career that will go beyond small-town arenas to the highest level of the sport.
Visvanth V, the all-rounder for U Mumba, in an exclusive conversation with Sportskeeda shares a glimpse of his path from playing in minor competitions in Tamil Nadu to the largest stage that is the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL).
Sharing his thoughts on competing professionally, Visvanth said, “Playing in the PKL should be the ultimate dream for any kabaddi player. I truly feel elated. This marks my second season. Donning the U Mumba jersey feels good, and the support I get from the team management and coach has been phenomenal. I’m just proud of it.”
Visvanth attributes his introduction to kabaddi through the academy headed by gold medalist and Arjuna recipient Manathi Ganeshan from the Asian Games. He said that his career had significantly been shaped by his previous coach Ganeshan.
He added, “Manathi Ganeshan sir was very instrumental in my early phases of professional kabaddi. He was the one who gave me the opportunity, support, and guidance to become who I am today.”
Following his impressive performances during the Yuva Kabaddi Series, Visvanth has earned his PKL debut. After being taken in by Tamil Thalaivas in the previous year, he was set free. After being acquired by U Mumba, he has performed admirably. He has scored 30 points in eight games overall. Visvanth spoke about the current season with his debut one.
The all-rounder said, “Last season, Udayakumar sir gave me an initial opportunity, and though I gave my best, subsequent chances eluded me. I worked on a lot and improved. U Mumba trusted my skills, and being an all-rounder this season, the team management has been exceptionally supportive.”
