In an unexpected twist, Mahmud managed to deflect the ball onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Piedt, seemingly oblivious to the situation, charged down the pitch, only to realize that his partner Kyle Verreynne had not budged from his crease.

South Africa eyeing a victory in the first Test

South Africa built their innings on the second day with Verreynne anchoring the batting with a fine century, the pressure mounted on Bangladesh to respond effectively. Mahmud’s earlier breakthroughs had provided some hope for Bangladesh, as he dismissed Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj in quick succession. Eventually South Africa finished with a score of of 308 and extended their lead to 202.
