India’s search for a new head coach intensifies as Rahul Dravid‘s tenure is set to conclude after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is actively evaluating potential successors to lead the men’s national team, marking a pivotal moment for Indian cricket leadership.

Several prominent figures have emerged as contenders to fill Dravid’s shoes. Among them, Gautam Gambhir, renowned for his tactical acumen and leadership prowess both on and off the field, stands out as a frontrunner. His recent success with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has bolstered his credentials.

Interviews with Gautam Gambhir and WV Raman

Gambhir and WV Raman, both former Indian cricketers with coaching experience, recently faced the BCCI’s cricket advisory committee (CAC) in interviews for the coveted head coach position. Gambhir, known for his strategic insights and deep understanding of the game, presented his vision for the team’s future, while Raman brought his extensive coaching experience, having previously led the Indian women’s team.

Insights from the interview process

During the interviews, the CAC posed critical questions aimed at understanding the candidates’ plans for team development across various formats. Key topics included strategies for managing the transition of senior players and fostering young talent, crucial aspects as India navigates a period of generational change in its cricketing landscape.

“Yes, Gambhir appeared for the interview with the CAC. One round of discussions happened today. There is another round expected tomorrow,” a BCCI source told PTI.

“Raman was interviewed after Gambhir. It was also on zoom. He also gave his presentation on his vision and road map on Indian cricket. The interview went for around 40 minutes. There were some initial questions by the committee before they looked at the presentation,” the source added.
