In the 24th over of India’s first innings, with the team struggling to gain momentum, Santner delivered a seemingly straightforward low full toss targeting the middle stump. Kohli attempted a cross-batted shot, an uncharacteristic move, and misjudged the line. The ball snuck under his bat, thudding into the middle and leg stumps, leaving Kohli dismissed for just 1 run off 9 balls. The crowd was taken aback by the sudden dismissal, with Kohli visibly frustrated as he made his way back to the pavilion.

Santner leads New Zealand’s bowling attack

After posting a total of 259 in their first innings on Day 1, New Zealand continued their dominance on Day 2 by applying intense pressure on India’s batting lineup. India, reeling under New Zealand’s relentless bowling attack, found themselves in a precarious position, with the scoreboard showing 107/7 at the end of the first session.

Santner emerged as the standout performer for New Zealand’s bowling squad by the first session, claiming four crucial wickets, including that of Shubman Gill, Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Ravichandran Ashwin. The left-arm spinner displayed exceptional skill and consistency, making it difficult for the Indian batter to settle. His performance was instrumental in pushing India deeper into trouble as they struggled to keep pace with New Zealand’s lead.
