In a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), a contestant named Ram Kishor faced a challenging cricket-related question worth ₹80,000 that nearly cost him his spot in the game. The question, focused on Indian Premier League (IPL) captains and their international careers, left the contestant perplexed, causing him to use up two lifelines before he eventually reached the correct answer.
KBC contestant struggles with cricket question
The question posed by the legendary host Amitabh Bachchan was, “Which of these players, all of whom were IPL team captains in the year 2024, never played a Test match for India?” The options provided were:
A: Shreyas Iyer
B: Hardik Pandya
C: Sanju Samson
D: Rishabh Pant
The correct answer to this question was option C, Sanju Samson, who despite being the captain of Rajasthan Royals and a regular in India’s limited-overs squads, has yet to play a Test match for India.
Initially, Kishor decided to use the ‘Phone a Friend’ lifeline, hoping his friend could provide some clarity on the tricky question. Unfortunately, his friend was unable to help, leaving Kishor with little choice but to opt for the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, which allows the contestant to make two guesses.
Confident in his first choice, Kishor selected Shreyas Iyer as his answer. However, Amitabh quickly informed him that Iyer, who has indeed represented India in Test cricket, was not the correct answer. With only one more chance remaining, Kishor cautiously selected Sanju Samson, which turned out to be the right answer, allowing him to advance further in the game.

Sanju Samson faces scrutiny amid recent struggles
Samson, who led Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024, has been a subject of much debate and scrutiny in recent times. Although highly talented, his inconsistent performances have put him under pressure, most notably after a disappointing showing in the third and final T20I between India and Sri Lanka. His inability to deliver with the bat has raised questions about his future prospects in India’s national team setup. Moreover, Samson’s exclusion from the ODI squad during India’s recent tour of Sri Lanka added further uncertainty to his international career.
Despite these setbacks, Samson’s journey in cricket is far from over. With his undeniable talent and a recent century in domestic cricket, many believe that it is only a matter of time before the 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman makes a comeback. His potential to perform at the highest level remains clear, and fans are hopeful that he will get another opportunity to showcase his abilities on the international stage.
