India find themselves in a commanding position after Day 2 of the 1st Test against Bangladesh at Chennai, leading by 308 runs with a total of 81/3 in their second innings. Jasprit Bumrah was pivotal in restricting Bangladesh to just 149 runs in their first innings, showcasing his exceptional bowling skills.

India’s first innings: A solid foundation by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja

India set the tone for the match with a formidable total of 376 runs in their first innings. The standout performance came from Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored a brilliant 113 off 133 balls, featuring 11 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 86 runs, ensuring that India capitalized on a strong batting display. Yashasvi Jaiswal added a valuable 56 runs, while the middle order saw contributions from Rishabh Pant (39) and KL Rahul (16). The Indian batting lineup showcased resilience and depth, effectively countering the Bangladeshi bowlers.

Bangladesh’s struggle: Class of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep

In reply, Bangladesh faltered, managing to score only 149 runs in their first innings. The batting order struggled against the Indian bowling attack, losing early wickets and failing to build any substantial partnerships. Bumrah led the assault, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs in 11 overs, demonstrating his mastery over seam and swing. Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep chipped in with 2 wickets each, further crippling the Bangladeshi innings. The collapse was highlighted by the early dismissals of Shadman Islam (2) and Zakir Hasan (3) leaving Bangladesh reeling at 22 for 2 within the first 9 overs. Shakib Al Hasan was the only bright spot in the lineup with 32 runs, but his efforts were not enough to salvage the innings.

India’s second innings: Steady approach amidst fall of top-order

In their second innings, India started steadily but lost three wickets for 81 runs. Jaiswal fell early to Nahid Rana for 10 runs, followed by Rohit Sharma, who scored 5 runs before being dismissed by Taskin Ahmed. Virat Kohli was dismissed LBW by Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 17 runs, leaving India at 67 for 3. Shubman Gill (33 not out) and Rishabh Pant (12 not out) remain at the crease, looking to build on their lead as the team approaches the end of second day.

Here’s how Netizens reacted:

At this point Bumrah is just showing off in how many ways he can dismiss batters.

India in total command Lead 308 already &7 wickets in hand. Poor batting by stalwarts Sakib and Das compounded B’desh’s woes. Bumrah brilliant as ever but day’s talking point Kohli’s dismissal: spurning DRS then discovering he had edged ball on to pad.

BOOM goes Bumrah 🧱🧨

Blasts into the 400 wickets club. Keep demolishing the stumps and keep winning us games, champ! 🙌#PlayBold #TeamIndia #INDvBAN pic.twitter.com/bpZqgFypnw

That first over from Jasprit Bumrah is the latest illustration of just how challenging it is to face him in Test cricket. It’s almost like he’s always got four different ways of getting a batter out, that too in the space of 6 balls, over after over. Genius #IndvBan

As expected, softening him up with the short stuff and then the yorker.

One Bumrah. 🙏

What a side India has become! The kind I dreamt of as India player in the 90s. 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

Bumrah bullied Taskin before finally putting him out of his misery.

Siraj takes out Rana. This could’ve been Jasprit Bumrah’s first five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in Tests. He is yet to take a Test 5W haul against Bangladesh and New Zealand.

He has a good chance to complete this set in the coming weeks.
