Rinku Singh, the backbone of Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) batting unit, has publicly expressed his desire to join Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) if KKR decides not to retain him during the highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. This revelation has stirred excitement among fans and analysts alike, as Rinku’s future with KKR remains uncertain despite his significant contributions to the team in recent seasons.

Rinku’s admiration for Virat Kohli and RCB

During an interview with Sports Tak, Rinku made it clear that his admiration for RCB’s talismanic batter Virat Kohli plays a pivotal role in his preference for the franchise. “RCB, because Virat Kohli is there,” he stated, highlighting the respect the southpaw has for the cricketing icon. This sentiment underscores not only Rinku’s desire to continue playing in the IPL but also his aspiration to be part of a team led by one of the game’s greats. Rinku’s relationship with Kohli extends beyond admiration; the two share a camaraderie that was evident when he requested a new bat from Kohli after his own broke during a match. The former RCB skipper, initially reluctant, eventually gifted him a new bat, showcasing their friendly rapport.

Rinku’s rising stardom and recent challenges

Rinku’s rise to prominence came during the IPL 2023, where he emerged as KKR’s top run-scorer. His standout moment was a breathtaking performance against the Gujarat Titans (GT), where he hit five consecutive sixes in the last over to lead his team to a remarkable victory. This performance not only solidified his position in KKR but also earned him a spot in India’s T20I squad. However, despite his achievements, Rinku faced disappointment when he was not included in the Duleep Trophy squad, a decision that left many surprised.

In a recent statement, Rinku reflected on his exclusion from the Duleep Trophy, maintaining a positive outlook. “I wasn’t selected because I didn’t play that well (in Ranji Trophy),” he said, acknowledging his performance in the domestic circuit. His resilience in the face of setbacks demonstrates his commitment to improving his game and his determination to secure a spot in future national selections.

As the IPL 2025 mega auction approaches, Rinku’s future remains a topic of speculation. His potential move to RCB, driven by his admiration for Kohli and his desire to continue making an impact in the league, could signal a new chapter in his career.
