Cricket South Africa (CSA) have announced strong and well-balanced Women’s T20I and ODI squads for the upcoming home series against Pakistan, scheduled to run from February 10 to March 1. The selection reflects a clear focus on continuity, form, and future planning as South Africa look to build momentum in the limited-overs format ahead of a packed international calendar.
Laura Wolvaardt continues to lead the Proteas Women
Star batter Laura Wolvaardt will continue to lead the side after a sensational run with the bat in recent weeks. The elegant right-hander comes into the Pakistan series on the back of two ODI centuries against Ireland and a blistering T20I hundred in the same tour, underlining her growing stature as both a leader and a match-winner. CSA’s decision to persist with Wolvaardt at the helm signals stability and faith in her calm, performance-driven leadership style.
Kayla Reyneke earns maiden call-up
One of the biggest talking points from the squad announcement is the inclusion of 20-year-old all-rounder Kayla Reyneke, who has earned her first senior national call-up in the T20I squad. Reyneke’s rise through the domestic ranks has impressed selectors, and her selection highlights South Africa’s intent to invest in young talent alongside proven internationals.
Experienced core returns after WPL
The T20I squad also sees the return of experienced all-rounders Marizanne Kapp, Chloé Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk following their stints in the Women’s Premier League. Their presence adds depth, balance, and leadership to the side, particularly in pressure situations. Senior campaigners Dané van Niekerk and Suné Luus have also been retained, ensuring a strong blend of experience across departments.

Wicketkeeping and bowling options strengthened
Sinalo Jafta and Karabo Meso have been named as the designated wicketkeeper-batters for both formats, offering flexibility and competition behind the stumps. In the bowling department, spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba continues to be a key figure, while Ayabonga Khaka and Masabata Klaas add pace and control. Tazmin Brits and Ayanda Hlubi return to the setup after missing the Ireland series, further strengthening the batting and bowling units.
Changes for the ODI squad
While the T20I squad leans towards continuity, the ODI group features a few notable changes. Lara Goodall, Faye Tunnicliffe, Nondumiso Shangase, and Tumi Sekhukhune have been drafted into the 50-over squad, replacing Khaka, Klaas, Reyneke, and van Niekerk. The adjustments suggest a format-specific approach as the selectors look to fine-tune combinations for longer innings cricket.
