New Zealand are all set to continue their ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 campaign by taking on Papua New Guineaa in game 39 of the tournament at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad, on Monday, June 17. It is worth noting that New Zealand have already been eliminated from the tournament, and the game against Papua New Guinea will just be chance to secure a consolation win for them.

The Black Caps have fielded similar lineups in the games that they have played so far, and the same could be the case against Papua New Guinea as well. Let us have a look at the probable XI of New Zealand in game 39.

Here is the predicted New Zealand XI against Ireland:

Openers – Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk)

Finn Allen will be coming against Papua New Guinea on the back of some subpar performances in his last few matches. Allen departed for just nine runs against Uganda and failed to go big against the West Indies as well when he was dismissed for 26 runs. On the other hand, Devon Conway is another batter who has been out of form. He stayed unbeaten on 22 runs in his last game and helped the Black Caps win against Uganda. However, Conway has not been able to create much of an impact in the tournament.

Middle-order: Kane Williamson (c), Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman

New Zealand’s middle order will consist of the likes of Kane Williamson, Glenn Phillips and Mark Chapman. Williamson has been in poor form in the T20 World Cup 2024. He was not required to bat against Uganda while before that he could manage scores of 1 and 9.

Glenn Phillips has been in good form. He scored 40 runs against the West Indies and has been a consistent performer. Despite this one being a dead rubber, he would want to contribute to help his side finish on a high. Mark Chapman will complete New Zealand’s middle order, providing some stability to the batting attack.

All-rounders – Daryl Mitchell, Michael Bracewell

New Zealand’s all-rounders will consist of the likes of Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell. Both the players have been crucial for the Black Caps with both the bat and the ball in recent times. Both did not get a chance to feature against Uganda. However, Mitchell recently scored 12 runs against the Windies and took no wickets in the one over he bowled. On the other hand, Michael Bracewell will be hoping to get a chance against Papua New Guinea, having played only a solitary match so far.

Bowlers – Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee

New Zealand’s bowling attack will consist of three pacers and one specialist spinner in Mitchell Santner. Santner has been a crucial part of the Black Caps’ lineup in recent weeks, taking two wickets in his previous game. Meanwhile, Trent Boult will spearhead New Zealand’s bowling attack alongside his long-standing partner Tim Southee. The duo has been in sublime form of late and bagged five wickets amongst them in the game against Uganda. Lockie Ferguson will complete New Zealand’s lineup against Papua New Guinea.
