Pakistan and Ireland lock horns in the final game of Group A in the 2024 T20 World Cup on Sunday, June 16, at CBRP Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida. However, the city is experiencing severe rainfall over the past few days and it would be tough to get the game in.

Pakistan lost their first two games against the USA and India before opening their points tally with a win versus Canada. However, after the USA versus Ireland match on Friday was abandoned due to rain, the Men in Green’s chances of qualifcation went out of the window. Having already been eliminated, Pakistan will play for pride and look to finish off on a high.

Meanwhile, Ireland suffered defeats versus India and Canada in their first two games before their loss to the USA. The European side has also been eliminated from the tournament and will look to give a good account of themselves on their way out.

Here is the predicted England XI vs Australia:

Openers – Mohammad Rizwan and Saim Ayub

Mohammad Rizwan is the leading run-getter in the tournament for Pakistan, having scored 93 runs from three matches at an average of 46.50 and a strike rate of 88.57. He is coming off an unbeaten run-a-ball half-century against Canada. Rizwan would love to make an impact once again against Ireland.

Saim Ayub is one of the most talented young batters in the Pakistan circuit. The 22-year-old made his maiden T20 World Cup 2024 appearance against Canada and scored only six off 12 balls. The southpaw will look to make amends on Sunday.

Middle-order – Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Usman Khan

Babar Azam has failed to live up to his potential with the bat. In three games, he has scored 90 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 104.65. He hit only six fours and three sixes in the 86 balls he faced. Babar has been dismissed playing the same shot in the last two games, something that he himself pointed out. He tried to guide the balls to third man for singles but only managed outside edges behind the stumps. The talismanic batter is one of the greats of modern-day cricket and is known for being a quick learner. He will hope to rectify his mistake on Sunday.

Fakhar Zaman has had a dismal campaign thus far and it has hurt Pakistan badly. In three games, he has only managed 28 runs at an average of 9.33 and a strike rate of 133.33. He will want to give Pakistan fans something to cheer for by playing one of his stroke-filled knocks against Ireland.

Usman Khan didn’t have a great record in the six T20Is he played before the marquee event. However, the selectors showed a lot of trust in the 29-year-old and picked him in the side. However, the right-handed batter could not repay the faith shown in him, as he accumulated only 18 runs off 19 balls in the three games. If he endures another failure on Sunday, his spot in the side could come under the scanner in Pakistan’s future T20 assignments.

All-rounders – Shadab Khan, Imad Wasim

The spin-bowling all-rounder played an impressive knock of 40 off 25 balls against the USA in the first match but perished for a seven-ball four against India. With the ball, Shadab Khan has bowled only three overs and conceded 27 runs without picking up a wicket.

Imad Wasim came out of retirement to play in the tournament. However, he played against India and Canada and finished with figures of 0/17 in three overs and 0/19 in four overs respectively. The all-rounder batted against India and scored a 23-ball 15. However, he got out at a crucial juncture and couldn’t take his team home.

Bowlers – Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Amir, Abrar Ahmed

Shaheen was expected to lead the Pakistan bowling attack from the front but he hasn’t been his usual self in the competition so far. He has only accounted for two wickets from three matches at a woeful average of 41.50. Shaheen will look to make an impact with the new ball on Sunday.

Naseem Shah has bowled his heart out in every game but hasn’t been backed up by his fielders. In three matches, he has scalped five wickets at 14.20 and conceded runs at an economy of less than six. Naseem bagged a three-for against India and helped his team keep their arch-rivals down to a score of 119.

Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed might get a game against Ireland in place of the misfiring Haris Rauf. The youngster has played just three T20Is so far but has a lot of talent and it would be a good thing for him to have a World Cup game under his belt before returning home.

Mohammad Amir has been the best Pakistan bowler in the tournament. He has picked up five wickets in three games at an average of 12.20 and has a miserly economy rate of 5.08. Amir would look to end his campaign with another strong outing.
