Indian wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel delivered a sensational catch that secured the first breakthrough for India A in their Duleep Trophy 2024-25 fixture against India B at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Thursday, September 5.

This highly anticipated clash, which signals the commencement of India’s domestic cricket season, is accompanied by simultaneous matches featuring the other two teams in Anantapur. India A captain Shubman Gill, after winning the toss, chose to bowl first, leading to a cautious start from the opening pair of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhimanyu Easwaran.

The opening batters faced a challenging spell from India A’s pace trio of Khaleel Ahmed, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan. During the 13th over, delivered by Avesh, Easwaran made an uncharacteristic decision to drive at a delivery well outside the off stump. The ball, catching the edge of his bat, veered towards the slip cordon. Dhruv Jurel, demonstrating exceptional reflexes, dove sharply in front of the first slip fielder, narrowly avoiding a collision with the second slip, to secure the catch. This dismissal left India B at 33/1 after the first hour of play.

Duleep Trophy 2024-25: India B’s batting performance so far

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the captain of India B, was dismissed for 30 off 59 balls. His innings included six boundaries but he could not carry on after being caught off the bowling of Khaleel Ahmed. Abhimanyu Easwaran, also an opener, was dismissed for 13 from 42 balls, being caught behind off Avesh’s bowling.

At the crease, Musheer Khan and Sarfaraz Khan remain not out, contributing 6 and 9 runs respectively. Musheer has faced 52 balls, while Sarfaraz has scored his runs off 28 balls. The fall of wickets has occurred at 33 and 53 runs, with India B looking to stabilize and build a substantial total. At lunch on Day 1, India B is positioned at 65 for 2 in 30 overs. The scoring rate has been slow, with a current run rate of 2.16 runs per over. The last ten overs saw just 12 runs being added for the loss of one wicket, indicating a period of tight bowling from the India A side.
