Kieron Pollard stole the show at The Hundred Men’s 2024 on Saturday (August 10) with a remarkable batting display against Afghanistan spin sensation Rashid Khan. In a breathtaking sequence, Pollard hammered five consecutive sixes off Rashid, playing a pivotal role in Southern Brave‘s crucial victory over the Trent Rockets.

This incredible assault came towards the latter stages of the Brave’s chase at the Utility Bowl, where they were tasked with chasing 127 and needed 49 off the final 20 balls. At that moment, Pollard had been playing cautiously, sitting at six runs off 14 balls. However, his explosive hitting transformed the match’s dynamics, proving why he’s considered one of the most feared T20 players globally.

Five sixes in a row by Kieron Pollard

The game-changing moment occurred after fellow West Indies player Akeal Hosein was dismissed off the 80th ball of the innings by Sam Cook, bringing Rashid back into the attack. Pollard, facing a ball pitched on the middle stump, backed away and unleashed a powerful shot over cow corner for a towering six.

He continued his onslaught with another six over long-off, sending a clear message to Rashid. Despite Rashid’s attempts to adjust his line, Pollard met each ball with devastating force, easily hitting straight and into the off-side. The fifth and final ball of the over, a slower delivery pitched full outside off, was also dispatched over long-off, completing an extraordinary sequence of five sixes.

Southern Brave’s march towards victory

Pollard’s onslaught drastically altered the match’s equation, leaving the Brave needing just 19 runs off the final 15 balls. The momentum was firmly in their favor as Pollard hit two more fours in the next set of deliveries before being run out by Calvin Harrison. With Chris Jordan stepping in, the Brave successfully chased down the target with a boundary off the penultimate ball of the innings. This thrilling win has significantly boosted the Brave’s prospects in the competition, propelling them to second place on the points table with 10 points from seven matches.
