In a thrilling encounter between Sri Lanka and India in the 2nd T20I match, the visitors secured a decisive seven-wicket victory, clinching the series with one game remaining. The contest at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium was a rollercoaster of spectacular performances from both teams, with India’s dominance ultimately prevailing.

Sanju Samson gets out on a golden duck

During the match, Maheesh Theekshana provided an unexpected start by dismissing Sanju Samson for a golden duck with his very first delivery. Theekshana’s carrom ball, which intriguingly drifted in instead of straightening, caught Samson off guard. With no foot movement, Samson left a gap, allowing the ball to sneak through and crash into the middle stump. Theekshana’s ecstatic celebration set the tone for a memorable match.

India clinches series with seven-wicket victory

The game proved to be a rollercoaster of spectacular performances, culminating in India’s seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka, securing the series with one game remaining. Sri Lanka posted a respectable total of 161/9 in their 20 overs, but rain interruptions led to the implementation of the DLS method. This revised India’s target to 78 runs in eight overs, a challenge they embraced with ease, finishing at 81/3 in just 6.3 overs.

India’s victory was a testament to their all-round strength, with contributions from multiple players. Ravi Bishnoi emerged as India’s hero, delivering an impressive bowling spell that earned him the Player of the Match award. Bishnoi’s precision and control were on full display as he took three crucial wickets while maintaining an economy rate of 6.50 over his four overs. His contributions were pivotal in restricting Sri Lanka’s batting lineup.

Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each claimed two wickets, providing crucial breakthroughs. In the batting department, Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s quickfire 30 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and two sixes, set a brisk pace. Hardik Pandya, showcasing his versatility, scored 22 runs off just nine balls with a strike rate of 244.44 and also took two wickets in his two-over spell.

This comprehensive victory highlighted India’s dominance and secured the series with a 2-0 lead, leaving one game to play. The team’s performance not only underscored their prowess but also set the stage for a potential series sweep. As India looks ahead to the final match, their blend of explosive batting, sharp bowling, and strategic acumen continues to shine, promising more exciting cricket to come.
