The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has officially announced the launch of the inaugural Women’s Delhi Premier League (WDPL) 2024, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of women’s cricket in the region. This eagerly anticipated T20 tournament is set to take place from Tuesday (September 2) to Saturday (September 7).
A women’s counterpart to the Delhi Premier League T20
The WDPL 2024 will serve as the women’s edition of the ongoing Delhi Premier League T20 (DPL T20) 2024, creating a parallel platform for female cricketers to showcase their talents. The tournament will feature four dynamic teams, each representing one of the four zones of Delhi. The prestigious Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi has been chosen as the host venue for all seven matches, including the highly anticipated final.
Team line-up and ownership
The four teams participating in the WDPL 2024 have been strategically formed to represent different geographical zones of Delhi. The South Delhi Superstarz, representing South Delhi, are owned by Real Force Resources Pvt Ltd. East Delhi Riders, from the East Delhi zone, are under the ownership of Areion Finserve Pvt. Ltd. Central Delhi Queens, representing the Central Delhi zone, are owned by Utech Developers Pvt. Ltd. Meanwhile, the North Delhi Strikers, representing the North Delhi zone, are owned by Gupta Jee Tent Services Pvt. Ltd.

Tournament structure and key players
The league will feature six exciting league-stage matches played in a single round-robin format, where each team faces the others once. The top two teams on the points table will advance to the grand finale, scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 2024.
The WDPL 2024 will see participation from some of the most promising talents in Indian women’s cricket. Among the standout selections are Shweta Sehrawat, former vice-captain of India’s U-19 Women’s World Cup 2023 team, Priya Punia, a senior wicket-keeper batter for the Indian national team, Laxmi Yadav, wicket-keeper batter for UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL).
