Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore faced off in the 50th match of the IPL 2023 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 6. The David Warner-led side defeated RCB by seven wickets.

RCB captain Faf du Plessis decided to bat first after winning the toss. Openers du Plessis and Virat Kohli produced a steady start for RCB as they scored 51 runs in the powerplay. However, DC managed to find a massive breakthrough with Mitchell Marsh. He struck twice dismissing du Plessis (45) and Glenn Maxwell for a duck on consecutive deliveries.

Meanwhile, Kohli (55 off 46) scored a half-century before being dismissed by Mukesh Kumar. Following that, Mahipal Lomror also struck a fifty as RCB posted 181/4 in 20 overs. For DC, Khaleel Ahmed also picked a wicket, dismissing keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik.

During the chase, Delhi openers David Warner and Phil Salt got off to an explosive start. The duo put up 60 runs for the first wicket before the DC skipper departed for 22. Mitchell Marsh came and provided momentum for DC’s innings before being dismissed for 26. 

Meanwhile, opener Salt led the charge for DC as he smashed 87 runs off 45 deliveries, including eight boundaries and six maximums. Rilee Rossouw (35* off 22) also played an impressive cameo as the home side chased down the target in 16.4 overs. For RCB, Josh Hazlewood, Karn Sharma, and Impact Player Harshal Patel scalped one wicket each.

Best batter of the match

Phil Salt led the charge for DC against RCB at their home. He scored 87 off 45 deliveries during DC’s innings. His knock was studded with eight fours and six sixes.

Best bowler of the match

Mitchel Marsh picked two crucial wickets for DC. He dismissed RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on consecutive deliveries. He conceded 21 runs in his three-over spell. 

What’s next for both teams?

RCB will take on Mumbai Indians in their upcoming fixture at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 9. DC, on the other hand, will square off against Chennai Super Kings on May 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
