A Guinness World Record has been awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo for playing 200 international games for Portugal. The storied attacker played in his 200th match for Portugal against Iceland in a Euro 2024 qualifying match. The 38-year-old now holds the record for most international football appearances.
Guinness Book of Records has recognised Cristiano Ronaldo’s accomplishment. Before Portugal’s match against Iceland, a certificate recognising his achievement was given to the captain.
It is just another record for Ronaldo to add to his impressive resume in international football. With 122 goals in 200 games, the Al Nassr forward holds the record for most goals scored in international football history.
The storied forward has displayed no signs of slowing down and has no plans to do so soon. This week, the 38-year-old discussed his plans for the Portugal national side. While speaking to GOAL, the former Manchester United player shed light on his future with Portugal. He said, “I’ll stay here until I, the [football federation] president and the coach, believe I can. I’ll never give up coming here, because it’s always a dream. Representing the national team is the height of the career. I want to keep playing, make my family, friends and Portuguese happy.”
At the age of 18, Ronaldo made his Selecao debut back in 2003. He and his national team conquered the 2016 European Championships, and he could be interested in competing in the competition in 2024 once again.
Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Al Nassr in January, and he has been living there ever since.
The arrival of the legendary striker served as the impetus for several more European players to move over to the Middle East. Ruben Neves, a midfielder with Wolverhampton Wanderers, is the most recent to achieve so.
According to Sky Sports, the £47 million transfer for Ronaldo’s Portuguese colleague has been completed by Saudi powerhouses Al Hilal. Personal conditions have been agreed upon, and this week is when the signing announcement is expected. Karim Benzema as well as N’Golo Kante are also set to play within the Saudi Pro League alongside Ronaldo and Neves. The French striker and midfielder have joined the defending champions Al Ittihad team.
