Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has taken steps to quash rumours surrounding Joao Felix’s alleged dissatisfaction in Madrid and his potential move to Manchester United, according to Mirror. Felix’s loan spell at Chelsea last season was underwhelming, as he struggled to find consistency in front of the goal, managing only four goals across various competitions in 40 appearances for the Blues.
Despite his lack of attacking productivity, Felix did exhibit positive statistical indicators during his time in La Liga. Averaging 1.9 shots, 0.7 key passes, and 0.4 dribbles per 90 minutes, the 23-year-old showcased glimpses of his potential. Moreover, his pass completion rate of 77.3% in the Premier League highlights his accuracy in distributing the ball in the final third.
It should be noted that Felix remains under contract with Atletico Madrid until the summer of 2027. Therefore, any potential move by Manchester United during this off-season would likely require a significant transfer fee.
Despite his struggles at Chelsea, Joao Felix possesses undeniable quality in the final third. His pace allows him to outmanoeuvre defenders on the flanks, and with regular playing time and confidence, he could become a prolific scorer. Additionally, Felix has demonstrated the ability to create opportunities for his teammates, although he needs to improve his decisiveness in front of goal. While he primarily operates as a centre-forward, he can adapt to the left-wing position if instructed by his manager.
Given his familiarity with the Premier League, Felix would undoubtedly be a suitable addition for Manchester United to consider this summer. His experience in the league equips him to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, a skilled man-manager, Felix’s potential could be fully unleashed, unlocking his best performances in the upcoming seasons. Therefore, it would be wise for the Red Devils to actively pursue the Portuguese forward before the commencement of the new campaign.
