Miquel Camps, FC Barcelona’s deputy spokesperson for board of directors, criticized Real Madrid’s star player Vinicius Jr on Tuesday evening. Camps took to X (Formerly known as Twitter) and wrote a tweet attacking Vinicius Jr, but later on deleted the tweet. After a series of bad performances for his clubs and national team (Brazil), the winger returned to his best in the Champions League to claim the Player of the Match performance against FCB.

Vinicius provided a couple of assists to Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo in his club’s 2-1 win over Barcelona. But a controversy occurred in the match, where he slowed down his play to perform 10 scissor stepovers. Following it, he attempted to nutmeg a member of Barcelona, who tried to aggressively tackle Vinicius Jr. Camps was not happy with the act of the Real Madrid player and protested against it with his tweet.

It’s not racism, he deserves a slap on the wrist for clowning and mocking. What do these unnecessary and meaningless scissors in the middle of the field represent?” Wrote Camps on X. As the tweet received huge criticism from the fans of Real Madrid, Camps deleted the published tweet soon.

But the action of Camps was already captured by the world. News outlets like COPE got an image of Camp’s tweet, which went viral on social media. Fans from both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona criticized the deputy spokesperson of Barca. SPORT said that Camps has a history of such controversial takes and is known for speaking his heart out.

The match between the two rival clubs, which is termed as El Classico of Football, happens to be an event in the sporting world. The two Spanish based clubs take on each other at the Montjuic Stadium. The result of the match decides the fate of La Liga in May next month. Vinicius Jr played a key role last weekend in Real Madrid’s draw against Sevilla.

During the match, he was racially abused by a fan in the stands. It was probably the reason behind Camps claiming his outburst over Vinicius Jr was not a racist. But it was too late, as many had already presumed it to be so. Many claimed that Camps accused Vinicius Jr as a not true victim of racism.

The stalemate helped Barcelona to reduce Real Madrid’s lead to just one point in the summit. It was achieved when the 17-year-old Mark Guiu was substituted against Athletic club on Sunday. The youngster went on to score the only goal of the night, which resulted in the team’s 1-0 win. Reports suggest that Vinicius Jr and Real Madrid might receive a hostile reception from Culers at Catalonia.
