As the cricketing world eagerly anticipates the T20I World Cup 2024, former Indian cricketer Zaheer Khan has unveiled his preferred quartet of seamers for the Indian squad.
India’s triumph in T20I series against Afghanistan
India, having achieved glory in the ICC World T20 2007, recently cemented their dominance with a convincing 3-0 triumph over Afghanistan in the T20I series. This resounding victory serves as a fitting conclusion to India’s T20I preparations as it marked their final international T20 assignment ahead of the highly anticipated T20I mega event.
The global showpiece tournament is set to unfold in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), with India slated to play four crucial league matches, including a high-stakes encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9, before progressing to the knockout stage.
Zaheer Khan unveils his chosen quartet of Indian pacers for T20 World Cup 2024
In an insightful discussion with Colors Cineplex, Zaheer, a pace-bowling maestro in his playing days, delineated his initial three choices for seamers in the upcoming T20 mega event. The trio includes Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, identified by Zaheer as linchpins in India’s pace attack. Their ability to swing the momentum in crucial encounters can prove instrumental for India’s campaign.
“I feel you will see (Jasprit) Bumrah and (Mohammed) Siraj for sure. After that, Arshdeep (Singh), you will get a slight variation because he is a left-armer. He bowls good yorkers. So that is an added advantage,” Zaheer said.

The X-Factor
Adding a touch of unpredictability and experience to the pace battery, Zaheer further singled out Mohammed Shami as his fourth choice for the seamer’s role. The former India pacer expressed optimism about Shami emerging as the X-factor for the Men in Blue. Shami’s knack for delivering crucial breakthroughs and adapting to varying game situations positions him as a valuable asset in the team’s quest for T20I supremacy.
“Then I believe (Mohammed) Shami because if he is fit and available, he can be an X-factor option for you during the World Cup. So I will pick these four pacers because four pacers should go for sure,” the 45-year-old concluded.
