Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India’s most reliable middle-order Test batsmen, recently revealed his all-time Indian Test XI. Renowned for his calm demeanour and deep respect for the game, Pujara selected players who have left a lasting mark on Indian Test cricket. The 37-year-old also made some surprising and thoughtful picks that reflect both his deep understanding of the game.

His opening pair includes Sunil Gavaskar and Virender Sehwag — two contrasting styles but both legendary in their own right. At number three, he chose Rahul Dravid, calling him the most solid and reliable player he has seen. Pujara slotted Sachin Tendulkar at number four, followed by Virat Kohli and VVS Laxman at five and six.

Taking to Sports Tak, Pujara said “The opening pair is quite a contrast. Sunil Gavaskar is calm and steady, while Virender Sehwag plays with aggression. Together, they create a balanced combination. At number three, it’s Rahul Dravid. Next at number it will Sachin Tendulkar, at 5 Virat Kohli and 6th will be VVS Laxman.”

In the bowling department, Pujara gone with three seamers and two spinners, including Jasprit Bumrah, Anil Kumble, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kapil Dev.

Tough choice for the wicketkeeper role in Pujara’s India XI

On being asked about the wicketkeeper, Pujara picked MS Dhoni as the keeper of his all-time XI but mentioned that Rishabh Pant is steadily improving as a cricketer. He expressed hope that by the end of Pant’s career, he would be able to say Pant has become an even better player.

“I am going with MS Dhoni leads, but Rishabh Pant is steadily improving as a cricketer. I hope that by the time Pant’s career comes to an end, I can say he has become a better player” he added.
